Why This Matters

You bought the bookshelf. You opened the box. You spread 47 pieces across the living room floor and found a wordless instruction booklet with diagrams that look like a LEGO set designed by an engineer who has never seen a bookshelf.

Three hours later, you have a wobbly shelf with two leftover screws and a strong suspicion that something is backwards.

We get it. Flat-pack furniture is designed to be affordable and shippable, not easy to assemble. The tolerances are tight, the hardware is small, and one cam lock inserted at the wrong angle means disassembly and restart.

But the real issue isn’t frustration — it’s quality. Furniture assembled incorrectly is:

Unstable. Cam locks that aren’t fully seated, dowels that aren’t glued, and panels that are slightly racked make the piece wobble. It starts out just annoying and gets worse every time someone bumps it or loads weight on it.

Unsafe. An unanchored bookshelf or dresser is a tip-over hazard — and in a home with kids, that’s a serious safety issue. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that a child is injured by a falling dresser or TV every 17 minutes. Wall anchoring isn’t optional. It’s necessary.

Short-lived. Particle board and MDF don’t forgive mistakes. Strip a screw hole and you can’t re-drive it. Force a misaligned panel and the laminate chips. Cross-thread a cam lock and the joint never holds. Done wrong, the piece is compromised from day one.

We assemble flat-pack furniture correctly, reinforce weak points, and anchor everything that should be anchored. We also repair and reinforce furniture that was assembled wrong the first time — by you or by someone else.

Our Approach

Metro Service Pros doesn’t rush through assembly. We treat it like what it is — a construction project at a small scale.

We read the instructions first. The full instructions, before touching a tool. We identify the hardware, organize the pieces, and understand the assembly sequence. This alone prevents 90% of the problems people run into.

We use the right tools. Not the Allen wrench that came in the box. Our power drivers with adjustable clutches drive fasteners to the correct depth without stripping. Our levels make sure shelves and frames are plumb. Our clamps hold pieces steady while we secure joints.

We reinforce weak points. Particle board furniture has known weak spots — shelf pins in soft material, cam locks under heavy load, back panels that provide racking resistance but are held by tiny nails. We add wood glue to dowel joints, drive additional fasteners where the structure benefits, and replace inadequate back panel nails with screws when the piece will carry real weight.

We anchor to the wall. Every bookshelf, dresser, wardrobe, and tall cabinet gets anchored to the wall with appropriate hardware — found the studs, driven the screws, strap or bracket secured. This is non-negotiable for safety and we include it in every assembly.

We haul the packaging. Flat-pack boxes and packaging take up half a living room. We break down the cardboard and packaging material and leave your space clean.

The Workshop Advantage

When flat-pack furniture isn’t enough — when you need a real wood bookshelf, a custom storage bench, or a shelving unit that actually fits your space — we build it in our workshop. Same visit, but instead of assembling someone else’s design, we build ours. Solid wood, sized to your room, finished to your taste.

And when furniture breaks — a chair leg snaps, a table develops a wobble, a drawer runner fails — we repair it. Stripped screw holes get drilled out and plugged with hardwood dowels. Broken joints get glued and clamped properly. We fix furniture that other people would throw away.

Yes, and we do it often. We disassemble the problem sections, repair any stripped holes or damaged panels, and reassemble correctly. If hardware is missing or damaged, we source replacements. Sometimes the fix is faster than the original assembly would have been.
