Why This Matters

Your kitchen cabinets take more daily abuse than almost anything in your home. Opened and closed thousands of times a year. Exposed to heat, moisture, and cooking grease. Loaded with heavy dishes, pans, and appliances.

And most of them — especially in homes built in the last 15 years across Williamson County — were built to a builder-grade standard. Particle board boxes, thin MDF doors, plastic hardware clips, and cam-lock assembly. They look fine on move-in day. Five to ten years later? Doors won’t stay closed. Drawer slides are shot. Hinges are pulling out because the screw holes stripped in the soft material. The finish is peeling near the stove and the dishwasher.

So you start looking at options. A full kitchen remodel? $15,000-$30,000. New cabinet doors from a refacing company? $5,000-$10,000. Live with it? That’s what most people end up choosing.

But there’s a middle ground that most people don’t know about. Fix what’s broken. Upgrade what’s dated. Build custom inserts for the problems off-the-shelf cabinets were never designed to solve. And you don’t need a kitchen renovation to get there.

Our Approach

Metro Service Pros handles cabinet work differently because we have a full workshop. That means we can repair, modify, and build — not just adjust and patch.

Repair what’s failing. Stripped hinge screw holes get filled and redrilled into solid material. Drawer slides get replaced with full-extension, soft-close hardware. Loose cabinet boxes get re-secured to the wall with proper anchoring. Peeling laminate gets addressed or the door gets replaced entirely.

Replace doors and drawer fronts. This is the highest-impact cabinet upgrade you can do without a full remodel. We measure your existing cabinet boxes, build new doors and drawer fronts in our workshop — solid wood or MDF for a painted finish — and install them with quality hinges. Same boxes, entirely new face. It transforms a kitchen.

Build custom inserts. This is where our shop earns its keep. Pull-out spice racks, drawer organizers, pot lid holders, tray dividers, lazy susan replacements, under-sink organizers — we build these to fit your specific cabinets. Not the “universal fit” products from Amazon that are always an inch too wide or too narrow. Custom-measured, custom-built, fits perfectly.

Hardware upgrades. Swapping knobs and pulls changes the look of a kitchen instantly. We install quality hardware — drilling new holes if the spacing changes — and fill old holes cleanly. We handle soft-close hinge conversions on existing doors too.

Cabinet refinishing. When the doors are solid but the finish is worn or dated, we strip, sand, and restain or repaint. For the best finish, we take doors and drawer fronts back to the workshop — proper ventilation, dust-free drying, and a hard-wearing topcoat applied in controlled conditions.

Bathroom cabinets too. Everything we do for kitchens, we do for bathrooms. Vanity cabinets, medicine cabinets, linen closet organizers. Same approach — repair, replace, or build custom.

The Workshop Advantage

Cabinet work is where our workshop capability shows most clearly. A truck-based handyman can tighten a hinge. Building a set of custom Shaker doors that match your cabinetry, with mortise-and-tenon construction and a hand-rubbed finish? That takes a table saw, a router table, clamps, and a finish room.

We have all of it. When you need something built — not just adjusted — our shop is what makes the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Simple repairs — a drawer rebuild, a door re-hang, hardware replacement — run $100-$300 per item. A full set of custom replacement doors for a standard kitchen ranges from $2,000-$5,000 depending on style and finish. Custom pull-out inserts are typically $150-$400 per cabinet. We quote everything after seeing your cabinets.

Yes — and that's what we recommend in most cases. The cabinet boxes are almost always still solid. New doors, new hardware, and maybe a fresh coat of paint on the boxes transforms the entire kitchen at a fraction of full replacement cost.

Yes. We retrofit existing doors with soft-close hinges and replace standard drawer slides with soft-close full-extension slides. It's one of the most satisfying upgrades we do. No more slamming cabinet doors. Most kitchens can be converted in a half-day.

We do. For a proper cabinet paint job, we remove doors and drawer fronts, take them to our workshop, and apply a full prep-prime-paint process. The boxes get prepped and painted on-site. See our Painting page for details. For stain refinishing, see Furniture Refinishing.

Cabinet refacing companies typically apply veneer over your existing boxes and install catalog doors. What we offer is more flexible — we build solid wood doors in our shop (not from a catalog), build custom inserts that refacing companies don't offer, and handle surrounding work like painting and trim in the same visit. Usually at a lower cost because we're not a franchise with overhead to cover.
